About 2008, me in Arkansas, my daughter in Carolina

This is a favorite picture of Corinne at ten years age, in Canyon Lake near Phoenix, Arizona. Everyone says she looks big in this photo, but actually, the kayak is small. She barely stood above my elbow at that time. Now she is slightly taller than me.

We did a lot of kayaking and camping and mountain climbing at that lake. We even took the kayaks on the Salt River float trips with bus loads of people several times, as well as on our own. That is one of the best ways to keep cool in 100+.  The campgrounds were just a couple miles from Tortilla Flats, in an extraordinarily scenic desert canyon.

My Dad wrote a book of the family titled "As I Recall," which covered his life and generally spoke of us kids as "interesting critters."  Linda responded with her book "As We Recall," which is about the family from the six kids perspective where we each contributed ten memorable incidents. Get in touch with her or me for copies at about $20 each, or leave me a message. It has a lot of photos from the 50s & 60s where she spent weeks scanning suitcases full of old photos and writing the associated stories. The aircraft photo scan on the home page of this site came from her book. The two books might get posted here, but all the family, and especially the Authors need to give their permission before this is done.

These two were probably Loma Linda California, on a Half Marathon about 1985, I ran 89 races that year and would have done over 100, but moved to Illinois in October.

We used to say, they won't let me go to work without a bag over my head.

One of my risky adventures was to move my tractor from Colorado to Kansas. This was a 600 mile journey, and the tricky part was that I did not have a large trailer. The Ford-2000 Tractor fit snugly in the bed of the Ford F-150. This wasn't possible, according to many of the folks that offered opinions over the prior year, as I told them of my plan. Here is the tractor delivered to my home in Kansas, November 2012. There were some interesting tailgate conversations with the farmers at the Colorado and Kansas gas stations during the trip.

The only preparations for loading the tractor were:

Remove the front grille and bumper from the tractor so it will snug up to the cab without touching. The front tires will stop the tractor less than 2" from the truck cab. Move the Spare tire from under the truck and put in the bed (in case it is needed), add 42psi to the truck rear tires, ensure that you have a good tie-down setup, and block the tractor from rollback. Remove the tailgate to reduce weight, and if you drive on to the tailgate, you might reshape it or snap the lanyards.
