I re-soldered wires to Vol and Jack with silver solder. The lacquer coating is original but cracked or grazed due to storage or use in cold weather. The photos with flash show the grazing very well. In normal lighting it is not nearly as prominent. The same guitar in similar or worse condition asks 3k to 10k on ebay. If it had original keys, and no cracks on varnish, this would be considered excellent condition. This was given to Zack in Joplin, Missouri Good case - no key to the lock
Sustain is great - keeps tune forever if strings are well used
Cracks in varnish are amplified by the flash of the camera
No dings anywhere on this guitar - the only wear is noted below Made in USA over Serial # 00125614 with German keys modification
This guitar has number 00125614 which makes it a 1963 or 1967 by this list. The info below says all 67's started with a "0" and have 6 digits. The modified keys make it a collectors hesitation. I remember the original 60's guitars with original keys. They usually didn't work well (about like wooden pegs) and everyone was changing them to this model of keys. These are properly installed and probably done in a music shop. The sound is perfect and has three position selection on two pickups. Gap at the 12th fret is just over 1/8th inch on all strings. I picked up this guitar in Shreveport about 1981. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The following information originated from http://www.provide.net/%7Ecfh/gibson.html#serial I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but there are many resources and more information on the web. Stamped in serial numbers, used from 1961 to 1969. The 1964 number on the left is still a "pressed in" number, though gibson has inked the impression to make it more readable (they started doing this about 1963 or 1964, when serial numbers went to six digits). The number in the middle is from 1964 (on an ES-335), and the number in the right is from 1961 (on an Les Paul TV Special). Note the lack of "Made in USA", thus denoting these are pre-1970 guitars.
Gibson Serial Numbers, Feb 1961 to 1970. All models, stamped in back top of peghead. No "MADE IN USA" stamp below serial number! Note many serial numbers are duplicated from 1963-1969. In these cases, to figure out which is the exact year for a guitar, see the General Specs section for more details. ALSO note: It is easy to confuse 5 digit and 6 digit serial numbers from this era, and hence get the wrong year for a guitar. That is, 55555 is not the same number as 555555 (but when reading the number off the back of a Gibson peghead, these two numbers do look very similar!)
